At Brown and Baran Family Dentistry, we are pleased to offer Invisalign® as an extremely effective, virtually invisible alternative to conventional metal braces. Cosmetic dentist Paul Brown and his colleague, Dr. Christopher Baran, are certified providers of Invisalign® aligners, which allow patients to straighten their teeth and improve their bites without the need for uncomfortable and noticeable wires and brackets. There has never been a more comfortable, convenient, or cosmetically appealing orthodontic appliance.

In addition to its aesthetic benefits, Invisalign® is nearly as versatile as metal braces. The Invisalign® system can be used to address gaps between teeth, overbite, underbite, open bite, cross bite, and overcrowding. Although the aligners can be removed for brushing, flossing, and eating, they should be worn for between 20 and 22 hours a day for best results. When worn as recommended, Invisalign® can produce results similar to traditional metal braces in roughly the same amount of time. Our esteemed dentists can discuss the Invisalign® treatment process with you at our Seaford office during a consultation. If you are willing to commit to the Invisalign® treatment plan, you can emerge with a healthy smile full of straight, uniform teeth that you’ll be proud to flash as often as possible.

The Beginning Stages of Invisalign® Treatment

After Dr. Brown or Dr. Baran has decided that you are a suitable candidate for Invisalign®, we will create a three-dimensional image of your teeth. This image, along with an impression of your mouth and specifications provided by our team, will be used to map out your treatment plan at the Invisalign® lab.

The lab will send us a series of smooth, BPA-free plastic aligners custom-crafted specifically for you. You will your aligners all day, every day, removing them only for eating, brushing, and flossing.

The Timeline for Treatment

You will wear your first set of Invisalign® aligners for roughly two weeks. At that point, you will trade it out for the next set of aligners in the series. Each set of aligners is designed so that it is shaped slightly differently from the one that preceded it; with each new aligner, the teeth will gradually be guided closer toward their optimal positions in the mouth. Aligners are traded out every two weeks. You will visit our practice approximately every six weeks so that we can ensure that your treatment is progressing smoothly and make any necessary adjustments.

Precisely how many aligners you will require and the overall length of your treatment will depend on several factors, including:

  • The severity of your case
  • Your treatment objectives
  • Whether Invisalign® is being performed as your primary orthodontic treatment or to augment the results of treatment with traditional metal braces

During your Invisalign® treatment, you should be willing to practice excellent oral hygiene habits, brushing and flossing at least twice a day and after every meal. If you smoke, you should be willing to quit smoking as it could prevent your treatment from being as effective or as efficient as it could otherwise be.
